Mary Kay City Modern City Sophisticate Eye Palette

City Sophisticate Eye Color Palette Tutorial

Before I apply my makeup, I must have clean skin. For my daily routine I cleanse, moisturize, and add a pore minimizer serum two times daily.  I also sometimes add a nondrying freshner/toner that gently removes excess residue from skin.  Because I'm over the age of 30 I opt for an anti-aging skin care to keep my skin looking younger, more supple and reduce fine lines and wrinkles (learn more about anti-aging skin care).

If you are a person that wears makeup daily, it is important that you remove your makeup and clean your skin before bed time. Not cleaning your skin daily can clog your pores, cause break outs, bumps, uneven skin tone or swollen face and eyes.

Now that we've properly prepped the canvas (your beautiful clean face), we can begin makeup application.

  • Foundation: I'm a no fuss kinda girl and love every day looks that are perfect for work or running errands with the kids. My go to foundation is Mary Kay CC cream with SPF 15. It is a light coverage (that can be layered with liquid foundation for more coverage if needed) and it has 8 skin benefits including color correction. I love, love, love my CC cream and it has to be one of my favorite makeup products.  It's quick and easy application makes it great for moms on the go.

  • Brows: I happen to like my natural brows so I don't stress too much over them. I use a brow definer brush and brow pencil to fill some of the gaps in for the lighter hairs and apply a brow gel to keep them in place. I've tried making them dark and dramatic and honestly, it just doesn't look good on me. If you are learning to work on your brows, the one thing that really reduced some stress for me is an eyebrow stencil. When I used the stencil I was using a mineral eye shadow to fill in the spaces vs. a brow defining pencil (learn more about different brow products).
  • Eye Colors: Now the fun part!!  I'm using the Mary Kay City Sophisticate Eye Color Palette from the Fall 2015 City Modern collection.  There are two eye color palettes featured in this collection along with 3 matching lip colors and nail colors to complete trend setting looks.  All of my preferred customers received the new perfume and cologne samples and step by step directions to complete all of the fall looks in the quarterly mailing of the Look Book.

The first time I tried the Sophisticated Statement look I found it to be a little too dark for my hooded eyes so I decided to use a lighter mineral eye shadow as a base all over the eye in Crystalline.  This helped to lighten up the darker color and highlight the brow bone.

    • Next, I patted on the darker pink color on the lash line to the crease of my eye. I then used a blending brush to lightly blended the dark pink with the Crystalline.

    • Line your bottom lashes with the light gold color of the City Sophisticate palette.

    • For my eye lashes, I used two types of Mascaras. First I used Mary Kay Lash Love Lengthening mascara in I Love Black, I applied a few coats to get my desired length. Then I topped it off with Mary Kay's Ultimate mascara in Black/Brown to thicken and add volume to my lashes.  This process is similar to "Minking" which I will talk about later.

    • I always use a blush. I have a favorite one, but it is a discontinued product. But a great substitute to complete this look would be Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color Duo.

    • I also used a highlighter. Every since I learned strobing, I use it every day in my makeup routine. I just love how bright and awake my face looks. It's great for those days when you don't get a good night sleep or to freshen your face for a night out after a long day at work. Check out my blog article "Tips & Trending: Let's Talk Strobing" to learn how to add this simple and easy technique to your makeup routine.

    • To finish the look I picked the Limited Edition Mary Kay Velvet Lip Creme in Oh So Currant. I was truly surprised at how velvety smooth, moisture rich and long lasting this lip color is. I have also found it to be versatile. When I want just a little bit of color, I can just dab this on and add a little lip jelly or gloss for a light tinted look. When I want a full color look I can stroke it on for bold rich color. This has become my go-to lip color of choice these last couple of weeks.

I like this look because of how quick and easy it was to re-create. The new color palettes offer a variety of looks that you can mix and match with each other. Have fun and try all the City Modern looks by global makeup artists available on my website.
