The Basics Of Good Skin Care

The skin is the largest organ in the human body therefore, proper care should be taken to maintain a healthy state at all times. Good skin care is not only a matter of how we feel and how we appear but also an important aspect of our whole being. The appearance of our skin is a reflection of the conditions of the other organs in the body. It’s important for you to know and understand your skin type; so you can take good care of it. Some people have very oily skin, others have dry and sensitive skin, others a combination of oily and dry, and then others have normal skin (they are the fortunate ones). In this article I will discuss the basics of good skin care and the benefits that come with it.

Nutrition
The foods you take in determine the healthy status of your skin and body. You should always keep in mind; what we consume as food either protects or destroys your body, including your skin. Having a good nutritional diet plays a major role in keeping your skin healthier and young. Vegetables and fruits are a good source of vitamins that can help your skin.  Foods rich in vitamin C and E provide protection from the damage of the free radicals from the sun. Vitamin A enhances the repair of the skin tissue.

Exercise
Routine body exercise is a must for good skin care. Exercise enhances the blood flow making your skin glow in appearance. When exercising, the body sweats removing impurities that are beneath the skin. These impurities clog the skin pores causing acne.

Hydration
Drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day is good for skin hydration. The skin usually becomes very dry in hot weather conditions and when the body lacks water and other fluids. Hydration gets rid of unwanted substances from the body and skin such as toxins and flush fats. A well-hydrated skin has an improved texture and less wrinkling. Therefore it’s very important that you make it a habit of drinking a min of 8 glasses of water on a daily basis. If your skin is still dry, the use of moisturizers can help to rehydrate the skin.

Exfoliation
Exfoliation is the removal of the dead skin cells which helps the renewal process. Exfoliation also assists your skin to look younger. There are several ways in which this is achieved. Using a facial scrub, mask or microdermabrasion at least twice a week will remove the dead cells. But it is important to choose a product that will remove the dead cells and avoid tearing the skin which will cause more harm than good. The use of retinoid is also recommended. They not only remove the dead cells of the skin but help in generating skin collagen.

Sunscreen
The ozone layer has been depleted as a result of environmental pollution. The sun rays which reach the earth are harmful to the skin. The rays have been proven to be a major cause of skin cancer. To protect your skin from these rays is important, therefore, use products that contain sunscreen. Sunscreens shield the skin from ultraviolet rays and also moisturize the skin.

In conclusion, the benefits of good skin care cannot be underestimated. Having a good skin care regimen will save you money by avoiding unnecessary costs that could result from treating skin diseases and undergoing surgeries. Investing and making “you” a priority is key to your overall health and wellness.
